A young man in China is
so desperate to cure himself of cancer, he grilled his body over scorching heat
in hopes of killing the cancer cells.
The 25-year-old man from
Yunan was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in March 2013 and had exhausted his
family’s savings for medical treatment over the past two years.
Although Mr Jia Bin
Hui’s condition is currently stable, he is unable to complete the whole
course of cancer treatment due to financial reasons.
Epoch Times
reported that Mr Jia started to research and experiment with alternative cancer
treatments as he was unable to afford the bone marrow transplant surgery that
costs 50,000 yuan.
Mr Jia documented his
battle with leukaemia on Chinese microblogging website Weibo and wrote in a
post on April 9 that he had decided to try hyperthermia to treat his cancer.
Photos posted later that
same day showed the young man building a wooden grill in his vegetable field.
He is also seen lying on the two wooden poles raised above a 42-degree-Celsius
fire.
Mr Jia added that he
tolerated the heat for more than 30 minutes during the treatment, and was
planning on continuing with the therapy for several days before returning to
the hospital to check if it killed the cancer cells in his body.
According to the
National Cancer Institute, hyperthermia involves exposing part or all of the
body to temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius to kill cancer cells.
It usually serves as a
complementary treatment to on-going radiation therapy or chemotherapy.
However, the Hong Kong
Anti-Cancer Society has commented that hyperthermia is not suitable for
treating cancers like leukaemia.
