I ALMOST COMMITTED SUICIDE – Iyanya recounts bankruptcy

Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has recounted how he almost committed suicide after he became bankrupt in 2020.

He said he lost his house and was staying in a hotel but couldn’t afford the hotel bills anymore at some point.

This was when he was taken to court by his former management, Temple Management Company, for allegedly “stealing” a car belonging to the company.

Iyanya narrated this while featuring as a guest in the latest episode of the Tea With Tay podcast hosted by actor, Temisan Emmanuel Ahwieh, aka Taymesan.

He said, “I was in court for a long time, I didn’t do shows. I couldn’t do anything. You know, when you stopped doing show, you now have to fall back on your savings. But when you are popping, that inflow [of money] is different, the way you spend is different from the way you spend whatever you saved. So, I felt it.

“I got to a point where I was like, mehn, I need to start touring. That was a crazy period for me. Guess what, two days after my last court case, COVID-19 started. I was stalked. I was in a hotel. My house was gone. I was in the hotel for a very long time. It got to one point, I couldn’t pay for the hotel bills anymore.

“The owner of the hotel is such a great human being. I have never seen a such an amazing human being like that. He allowed me stay there. His name is Alaba. He allowed me stay there for over a year. COVID literally caught up with me there. So, imagine not doing shows. Not touring for over a year, no inflow, and you are in court for the whole year. And then finally, it’s looking like the court case is finishing, the lockdown.

“I was in that hotel throughout the lockdown. I almost committed suicide. The manager stopped me one time. All of that stuff. Madness, man.”

WHY FARIDA SOBOWALE AND I WENT OUR SEPARATE WAYS – Estranged husband, Odulaja

The Chief Executive Officer of House of Phreedah Body Care, Farida Sobowale’s estranged husband, Demola Odulaja, has revealed the reasons their marriage crashed two months after they had an elaborate wedding.

Odulaja alleged that Sobowale was engaging in promiscuity, lies and covetousness, among others.

He further said that they had enjoyed a good relationship for over 20 years but their marriage could not endure the “unrestrained and promiscuous way of living” Sobowale displayed.

Odulaja revealed these in an interview with a Yoruba social commentator, ArewaTopeFamous, on Tuesday via Instagram Live.

Recall that Sobowale attempted to take her life by jumping into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge last Thursday, but was restrained by some people.

Sobowale, while venting her frustration after the incident, said her crashed marriage was the reason she planned to commit suicide.

But, in his own explanation, the estranged husband said there was a time when Sobowale engaged in simultaneous intimate relationships with him and other men before they eventually got married.

The London-based entrepreneur further alleged that the popular socialite randomly visited his brother who lived close to them often and even stayed there for hours without justifying her action.

While fielding questions on Sobowale’s allegation and label as a gigolo, Odulaja said: “I am extremely wealthy.  I live in a 22-bedroom mansion in Gbagada.

“I am not a gigolo. I come from a wealthy home and have been flying first class long before now. People know me well in London.

“When I got back to Nigeria from London in 2009, Farida met me in Lagos in 2010. That same year, I took her to China to start an importation business which of course yielded results and was the beginning of her travelling.”

R KELLY GETS ADDITIONAL 20 YEARS JAIL TERM

Former American recording artiste Robert Sylvester Kelly, professionally known as R. Kelly, has been sentenced to an additional 20 years imprisonment.

The United State District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber sentenced the 56-year-old to 20 years in jail on Thursday after he was found guilty by a jury of child pornography and enticement of a minor.

Kelly, who is already serving a federal 30-year jail term after three counts of production of child pornography and three counts of enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity in a federal trial in 2022, was found guilty of sexual molestation of a minor.

In the latest guilty verdict, the prosecutions produced concrete video evidence showing the singer sexually abusing his 14-year-old goddaughter.

The U.S. District Judge, handing out the judgement on Thursday, sentenced R. Kelly to 20 years imprisonment, in which 19 of those 20 years would be served concurrently with his earlier sentence instead of the 25 years sentence the prosecutors had demanded. While the remaining year would be served consecutively or after that sentence is completed.

According to the prosecutors, ”Robert Kelly is a serial sexual predator who, over the years, targeted young girls and went to great lengths to conceal his abuse of Jane and other minor victims. Following the jury verdict against him, to this day, Kelly refuses to accept responsibility for his crimes.”

The singer, however, remained silent for almost the entirety of the sentencing hearing and also refused to speak on his behalf.
